Rao Bahadur Movie :
Rao Bahadur is a 2026 Indian Telugu-language psychological drama film written, directed, and edited by Venkatesh Maha. The movie is presented by Mahesh Babu and stars Satyadev Kancharana in the titular role.

Theatrical Release: The film has hit theatres worldwide on July 3, 2026.
Run Time: The total theatrical runtime of the movie spans 2 hours and 49 minutes.

Rao Bahadur Movie Plot :
Set between 1968 and 1991, the narrative chronicles the life of Bhuvanam Ramappa Rao Bahadur, a royal aristocrat who is diagnosed with fourth-stage liver cancer and given mere months to live. Instead, he defies medical odds for years within his ancestral palace while battling severe hallucinations, delusions, and a deep existential reckoning regarding his lineage and ego.

Cast :
Satyadev Kancharana as Bhuvanam Ramappa Rao Bahadur – An aging aristocrat whose stubborn grip on pride and identity begins to deteriorate alongside his mental and physical stability.

Deepa Thomas as Renuka – Rao Bahadur's love interest who remains entangled within the complex emotional trap of the royal household.

Vikas Muppala as Dr. Achari – A close medical professional and confidant who frequently challenges Rao Bahadur's fixation on class structures and caste markers.

Here's my review of Rao Bahadur.

In terms of filmmaking, storytelling, and world-building, I'd say this is a genuinely unique attempt. However, the climax has two twists that feel quite unusual. In fact, if you think about them deeply, you might even question whether they can truly be called "twists."

The first half follows a non-linear screenplay and moves at a very slow pace. Even at the interval, there's no major twist, and the audience is intentionally left without a clear understanding of what the film is trying to convey. You'll probably walk out for the interval wondering, "What exactly are they trying to tell us with this storytelling?"

The second half, however, completely changes the experience. It finally reveals the film's actual plot and becomes much more entertaining. It blends comedy, emotional moments, a police investigation, DNA testing, a small courtroom drama, and ends with a decent climax twist.

The reason the first half feels slow is because this isn't a crime thriller. If it had been one, the story could have maintained constant engagement. Since there's no interval twist, the first half feels fairly ordinary. But the second half delivers enough to satisfy the audience, so don't worry.

Coming to the story, it's set in 1991. Satyadev plays a man from a royal family who has two sons. The elder son is born fair-skinned, while the younger son is dark-skinned. This difference makes him question whether the younger child is really his. That single doubt pushes him toward an extreme decision. To find out what that decision is and how deeply this suspicion affects his mental health, you'll have to watch the film in theaters.

At its core, the story is about how one lingering doubt remains like a haunting shadow until the very last moment of a person's life.

The song in the second half is really good. The film also touches on several interesting themes, including illness anxiety, heredity, social equality, and society itself.

Overall, both Venkatesh Maha and Satyadev deserve appreciation for experimenting with fresh stories and bringing something different to the Telugu film industry.

If you'd like, I can also rewrite this in a more natural YouTube review script style with stronger hooks and better audience retention.
