A lone attendant working the night shift at a nearly deserted highway gas station begins to suspect that something outside under the flickering canopy lights is watching him. Every time he checks the security monitors, the grainy cameras show nothing but empty pumps and darkness beyond the edge of the forecourt. Yet the bell above the station door keeps chiming as if someone is walking in and out, and wet footprints appear across the tiles that lead to the back room—right up to the locked door where, years ago, the last attendant was found murdered after a botched robbery. As the power begins to cut in and out and the pumps start dispensing fuel on their own, he realizes he is not dealing with a thief at all, but with something replaying that night’s violence and drawing him step by step toward the back room to finish the story again.
