बारिश उस रात कुछ ज़्यादा ही ज़ोर से गिर रही थी। दिल्ली की संकरी गलियों में पानी बह रहा था और पुराने मकानों की दीवारें भीगकर गहरी साँसें ले रही थीं। आरव खिड़की के पास खड़ा था, बाहर अंधेरे को देखता हुआ।
आज पूरे दस साल हो गए थे, जब वह इस शहर में आया था—एक छोटे से कस्बे से, बड़े सपनों के साथ। उस समय उसकी जेब में पैसे कम थे, लेकिन आँखों में चमक बहुत थी। अब जेब भरी थी, पर आँखों में थकान उतर आई थी।
मोबाइल की स्क्रीन अचानक चमकी। एक संदेश था—“क्या तुम अब भी लिखते हो?”
संदेश भेजने वाला नाम था: मीरा।
आरव का दिल एक पल को ठहर गया। मीरा—वही लड़की जो उसके साथ बरसात में भीगते हुए कविताएँ सुनती थी, जो कहती थी कि शब्द इंसान को ज़िंदा रखते हैं। लेकिन समय, काम और महत्वाकांक्षा के बीच वह कहीं खो गया था।
बारिश की आवाज़ तेज़ हो गई। आरव ने जवाब लिखा—
“शायद नहीं… लेकिन आज लिखने का मन है।”
कुछ ही देर में जवाब आया—
“तो लिखो। कभी-कभी एक रात पूरी ज़िंदगी बदल देती है।”
आरव कुर्सी पर बैठ गया। लैपटॉप खोला। उंगलियाँ कीबोर्ड पर रुकी हुई थीं, जैसे किसी इजाज़त का इंतज़ार कर रही हों। फिर अचानक शब्द बहने लगे—बारिश की तरह।
उस रात उसने पैसे, पद या शोहरत के बारे में नहीं लिखा। उसने अपने डर, अपने अधूरे सपनों और उस मीरा के बारे में लिखा जो कभी उसकी प्रेरणा थी।
सुबह तक बारिश थम चुकी थी। सूरज की हल्की रोशनी कमरे में फैल रही थी। आरव ने आख़िरी पंक्ति लिखी और मुस्कुरा दिया। उसे लगा, जैसे वह फिर से ज़िंदा हो गया हो।
मोबाइल फिर बजा।
मीरा का संदेश था—
“तुम अब भी वही हो। बस थोड़े देर से।”
आरव ने खिड़की से बाहर देखा। सड़कें साफ़ थीं। हवा में एक नई शुरुआत की खुशबू थी।
