Recently, the Indian government introduced a rule that requires all smartphone makers to pre-install the Sanchar Saathi app, along with other official telecom-security tools.

The goal is to reduce phone theft, prevent SIM fraud, and protect users from cyber scams. The app helps identify fake or cloned devices, reports suspicious numbers, and allows people to block their phone if it gets stolen.

But the move has sparked huge criticism. Many people are uncomfortable with a government-mandated app that they can’t remove. There are concerns about privacy, personal freedom, and the amount of data access such apps may have — like call logs or device info.

Because of this pushback, the government clarified that the app does not have to remain permanently installed.

Do you think this rule is good for safety or bad for privacy?
