Over

The universe is everything that exists — all space, time, matter, and energy. It includes billions of galaxies, each containing millions or even trillions of stars, planets, and cosmic objects. Our own galaxy, the Milky Way, is just one among these countless systems.

Scientists believe the universe began about 13.8 billion years ago with the Big Bang, a massive explosion that started the expansion of space itself. Since then, the universe has been growing larger, with galaxies moving farther apart.

A galaxy is a vast collection of stars, gas, dust, and dark matter held together by gravity. There are different types of galaxies — spiral, elliptical, and irregular — each with unique shapes and sizes. The largest known galaxy, called IC 1101, stretches over 6 million light-years across and contains more than 100 trillion stars.

Science continues to explore the mysteries of the cosmos — from black holes and dark energy to the search for life on other planets. The study of the universe, known as cosmology, helps us understand where we came from, how everything began, and what might happen in the future.
