In 1620, Dutch inventor
Cornelis Drebbel
created the first successful submarine.
He was an engineer from
Netherlands.
This wooden submarine could travel about 4–5 meters underwater and was powered by people rowing paddles inside.
That small invention later became the beginning of modern submarines used around the world today.

This revolutionary machine was later used in the factory of General Motors in 1961. It could lift heavy metal parts and do dangerous work that was risky for humans.
